Alba Iulia

Apulum, Karlsburg, Gyulafehérvár, Alba Iulia. Four names for a city of millennial importance. Former capital of the Eastern Hungarian Kingdom and of the Principality of Transylvania, it was here where the Union of Transylvania and the Kingdom of Romania was proclaimed following World War I. The Orthodox Cathedral hosted the coronation of Ferdinand I and Marie as King and Queen of Romania, in 1922.
